Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has stated that the last funeral and burial ceremonies for her father, the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, will begin on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as previously announced, directly contradicting her brother’s claim that the date is off.
At a news conference on Monday, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, the head of the Safo Family and the head of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, said that the July 30 date was void due to outstanding issues about the burial arrangements.
He promised to announce a new date later.
Speaking on Angel FM in Accra, however, Adwoa Safo categorically rejected the cancellation, stating that the funeral committee had already concluded plans after consulting with important parties such as former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
“On the 30th of July, we will go to Gomoa Mpota to bury my late father,” she stated.
“On the 31st of July, we will be at Independence Square to hold the funeral service. Then, on the 8th of August, we will travel to Asante Mampong in Kumasi for the thanksgiving service. So everyone should disregard the rumours that the funeral will not take place or that it has been cancelled.”
The brothers’ public disagreement over how to handle their father’s funeral ceremonies and legacy is exacerbated by the impasse.
The former Gender Minister also disclosed that she had undergone successful surgery following gunshot wounds she received at Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I’s coronation.
