MTN Ghana Records 46.8% Profit Growth in First Half of 2026 as Mobile Money and Data Revenue Surge

MTN Ghana has reported a strong financial performance for the first half of 2026, posting a 46.8% increase in profit after tax to GH¢5.1 billion, driven by robust growth in mobile money services, data usage, and digital solutions.

The leading telecommunications company also recorded significant increases in service revenue, earnings, and shareholder returns, highlighting the continued expansion of its telecom and fintech business in Ghana.

MTN Ghana Service Revenue Climbs to GH¢15 Billion

According to the company’s half-year financial results, service revenue grew by 32.3% year-on-year to GH¢15 billion, while EBITDA increased by 37.2% to GH¢9.3 billion, reflecting improved operational performance and strong customer demand.

Speaking during an investor webcast, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett attributed the impressive results to the company’s resilient business model and effective execution strategy.

He said the business has remained focused on delivering reliable telecommunications services, expanding digital innovation, and creating long-term value for customers, investors, and other stakeholders despite changing market conditions.

Strong Profitability Driven by Cost Management

MTN Ghana’s EBITDA margin improved by 3.4 percentage points to 61.8%, while profit before tax surged 56.4% to GH¢7.4 billion during the reporting period.

Stephen Blewett explained that disciplined cost management, operational efficiency, and sustainable revenue growth contributed significantly to the company’s improved profitability.

He noted that MTN continues to balance business expansion with prudent financial management, allowing it to maintain strong margins while investing in future growth opportunities.

Earnings Per Share and Interim Dividend Increase

The telecom giant also reported that earnings per share (EPS) rose 46.1% to GH¢0.388.

In line with its strong financial performance, the company declared a second-quarter dividend of GH¢0.06 per share, bringing the total interim dividend for the first half of 2026 to GH¢0.12 per share, representing a 50% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The higher dividend reflects MTN Ghana’s commitment to delivering value to shareholders through consistent earnings growth and improved financial performance.

Shareholder Returns Continue to Improve

MTN Ghana also posted notable gains across its key financial performance indicators.

  • Return on capital increased by 11.5 percentage points to 82.7%
  • Return on equity rose by 13.5 percentage points to 38.8%
  • Return on assets improved by 2.7 percentage points to 8.4%

According to the company, these results demonstrate its ability to grow revenue, improve profitability, and generate stronger returns while continuing to invest in network expansion, financial technology, enterprise solutions, and digital services.

Mobile Money and Digital Services Fuel Long-Term Growth

Stephen Blewett said MTN Ghana’s strong first-half performance underscores the effectiveness of its long-term growth strategy.

He noted that continued expansion in mobile money (MoMo), internet data services, digital platforms, home broadband, and enterprise connectivity solutions remains the key driver of sustainable business growth and positions the company for continued success in Ghana’s telecommunications industry.
