Investor confidence in Ghana government treasury bills remained robust as the Government of Ghana recorded another oversubscription in its latest treasury bill auction, reflecting sustained demand for short-term government securities.
According to the latest Bank of Ghana (BoG) auction results, the government exceeded its fundraising target after receiving bids significantly higher than the amount it intended to raise.
Government Receives GH¢10.5 Billion in Treasury Bill Bids
The Government of Ghana attracted GH¢10.5 billion in bids during the latest treasury bill auction, representing 79% above its target.
Out of the total bids submitted by investors, the government accepted slightly over GH¢8.6 billion, demonstrating continued investor appetite for Ghana’s fixed-income market despite changing interest rate conditions.
364-Day Treasury Bill Records Highest Demand
The 364-day treasury bill remained the most popular investment instrument among investors.
The one-year bill attracted bids worth approximately GH¢7.47 billion, accounting for nearly 71% of all bids submitted during the auction.
The government accepted around GH¢7.1 billion of those bids, making the 364-day instrument the dominant performer in the latest treasury bill sale.
182-Day and 91-Day Treasury Bills Also Attract Investors
The 182-day treasury bill received investor bids totaling GH¢757.9 million, with the government accepting just over GH¢501 million.
Meanwhile, the 91-day treasury bill attracted bids valued at approximately GH¢2.2 billion, of which a little over GH¢972 million was accepted.
The results highlight continued investor participation across all three short-term government debt instruments.
Treasury Bill Interest Rates Remain Stable
The latest auction also showed that treasury bill yields continued to trend higher along parts of the yield curve.
However, the 91-day treasury bill interest rate remained unchanged at 5.76%, indicating relative stability in short-term borrowing costs.
The consistent oversubscription of Ghana treasury bills underscores strong investor confidence in government securities and reflects sustained demand for low-risk investment opportunities in the country’s financial market.
