Former Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi has expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama following his reassignment as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
Brogya Genfi, who was removed from the Defence Ministry in the latest government reshuffle, thanked President Mahama for the confidence placed in him and pledged his continued commitment to serving the government in his new role.
In a social media post shortly after the reshuffle was announced, Brogya Genfi expressed his gratitude to the President for initially appointing him as Deputy Defence Minister.
He also recalled being entrusted with responsibilities at the Defence Ministry following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of his former boss, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and seven other Ghanaians.
Brogya Genfi said he remained grateful for the opportunity to serve under the leadership of the late Defence Minister and assured President Mahama of his “unwavering loyalty and dedication” in his new capacity.
Brogya Genfi Thanks Ghana Armed Forces
The newly appointed Presidential Adviser also thanked the leadership and staff of the Ministry of Defence for their support during his tenure.
His appreciation extended to the Military High Command, Ghana Armed Forces, Armed Forces Council, Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC), and the Veterans Administration, Ghana.
He described their support as an important part of his service at the Defence Ministry.
Mahama Announces New Government Reshuffle
President John Dramani Mahama announced another reshuffle of his government on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, affecting the Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Special Initiatives and Defence portfolios.
Under the latest changes, Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has been reassigned to the Special Initiatives portfolio.
The Minister of State for Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, has meanwhile been moved to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation.
Brogya Genfi has also been reassigned from the Defence Ministry and appointed Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the new appointments and reassignments take immediate effect.
The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
Latest Reshuffle Follows Earlier Cabinet Changes
The latest government reshuffle comes approximately three weeks after President Mahama announced another major change to his administration.
In the earlier reshuffle, the President nominated Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama also reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Defence Ministry as substantive Minister.
Mr Adjei assumed responsibility for the Defence Ministry following the death of Dr Edward Omane Boamah in the military helicopter crash in August 2025.
Brogya Genfi had served as Deputy Defence Minister under the late Dr Omane Boamah.
Parliamentary Vetting of New Ministerial Nominees
Meanwhile, the ministerial nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings from the earlier reshuffle are still awaiting parliamentary vetting.
The nominees are scheduled to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The latest changes form part of President Mahama’s ongoing efforts to reorganise his government and assign officials to strategic portfolios based on the administration’s priorities.
