The Government of Ghana will temporarily close the westbound section of the Busia Highway between Kaneshie Market Station and First Light Junction from September 7 to November 30, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to address flooding and improve infrastructure in Greater Accra.
The temporary road closure will allow contractors to carry out major storm-drainage and flood-control works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project. The project is aimed at improving drainage systems and strengthening flood resilience in flood-prone communities across the Greater Accra Region.
Motorists travelling westbound from Korle Bu, Graphic Road, Obetsebi Lamptey Circle, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and surrounding areas are advised to plan ahead and use the designated diversion route.
The alternative route will pass through Awudome Cemetery Road, New Times Road, Awudome Roundabout, Oblogo and Mataheko, before reconnecting with the main road at First Light Junction.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow traffic management signs and cooperate with road authorities throughout the construction period to minimise traffic congestion and ensure public safety.
