The Ghana Fire Service responded to two separate fire incidents in the Eastern Region on Monday, September 7, 2026, involving a commercial property near the main lorry station at Anyinam and a vehicle fire on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
Commercial Fire Reported at Anyinam
The first incident occurred near the main lorry station at Anyinam, where the Bunso Fire Station received an emergency call at 4:28 a.m. reporting a fire at a commercial property.
A six-member firefighting team led by ADO II Annan arrived at the scene at approximately 4:45 a.m. Upon arrival, the crew discovered that the fire, which was reportedly caused by an electrical fault, had already been extinguished.
Firefighters conducted an overhaul operation to ensure that there were no hidden hot spots that could cause the fire to reignite.
Several household and commercial items were partially or completely damaged. Mattresses, a television stand, wooden ceiling materials and plastic chairs suffered partial damage, while two standing fans were completely destroyed.
However, firefighters were able to salvage gas cylinders, chairs, a mattress, bench and table.
No casualties were recorded in the Anyinam fire incident. Occupants at the premises were subsequently educated on appropriate fire safety measures and fire prevention practices to reduce the risk of future fire outbreaks.
Vehicle Fire on Accra-Kumasi Highway
Later the same day, the Bunso Fire Station responded to another emergency involving a black Mazda CX-7 on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Akyem Asafo.
The emergency call was received at 10:33 a.m., and a seven-member fire crew led by ADO II Amankwah Dacosta arrived at the location at 10:49 a.m.
According to the vehicle owner, he noticed an unusual sound coming from the engine while driving. He parked the vehicle to investigate and subsequently noticed smoke emerging from underneath the car.
The vehicle later burst into flames.
Bystanders attempted to assist by overturning the vehicle, but the action reportedly intensified the fire.
The Ghana Fire Service crew deployed foam concentrate to tackle the blaze and successfully extinguished the fire at about 11:10 a.m.
The Mazda CX-7 was completely destroyed by the fire, although no injuries or deaths were recorded.
The exact cause of the vehicle fire remains under investigation.
