The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three individuals and closed down the Amsterdam Pub at Laboma in Accra following an intelligence-led operation over suspected narcotics-related activities at the entertainment facility.
According to a statement issued by NACOC on September 8, the operation was carried out overnight on Friday, September 4, after intelligence gathered by the Commission suggested that the facility was allegedly connected to activities involving illicit narcotic substances.
The three suspects arrested are currently assisting NACOC with investigations as authorities work to determine the full extent of the alleged activities at the facility.
However, the Commission disclosed that the main suspect allegedly linked to the suspected narcotics operations is still at large. NACOC has therefore deployed additional intelligence officers to locate and arrest the individual as investigations continue.
NACOC explained that the facility, which reportedly operated as a self-styled coffee shop, has been closed to support ongoing investigations and prevent the premises from potentially being used for further drug-related activities in Accra.
The Commission said the operation forms part of its broader intelligence-driven drug enforcement strategy aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling locations and networks suspected of facilitating the sale, distribution and use of illicit drugs in Ghana.
NACOC Warns Pubs and Nightclubs Over Drug Activities
NACOC has also issued a warning to owners, managers and operators of pubs, nightclubs, lounges and other entertainment businesses against allowing their premises to become centres for narcotics-related activities.
The Commission reiterated that it will continue taking enforcement action against businesses found to be involved in, supporting or facilitating the sale and distribution of illegal narcotic substances.
The latest operation highlights NACOC’s continued efforts to combat drug trafficking, illegal drug distribution and narcotics-related activities in Ghana, while protecting communities and entertainment venues from becoming hubs for illicit drug activities.
