According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the country’s imports were almost 4.5 billion cedis higher than its exports in 2022.
According to the statistical service’s most recent assessment on trade vulnerability for 2022, Ghana spent 148.6 billion cedis on imports overall while earning 144.1 billion cedis from exports.
The data also discloses that Ghana only exported to 161 countries in 2022 while importing goods from around 209 nations.
Four countries, Switzerland, China, Canada, and South Africa, account for more than half of Ghana’s exports of oil, gold, and cocoa, according to the 2022 Trade Vulnerability Report for Ghana.
In contrast, about half of all imports came from six nations: China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States, India, and Switzerland.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) report on traded goods emphasizes that almost two-thirds of all exports are made up of gold bullion and crude oil.
However, 126 different categories of goods make up imports, which account for two-thirds of total imports.
With total imports of 148.6 billion and total exports of 144.1 billion, Ghana experienced a trade deficit of 4.5 billion in 2022.
Only in North America and Africa were exports greater than imports.
