Former La Dadekotopon MP Vincent Sowah Odotei has called for clarity over the demolition of structures at the La Pleasure Beach Resort, raising concerns about the impact of the exercise on businesses, property owners and affected residents.

In a letter addressed to the Member of Parliament for the La Dadekotopon Constituency, Rita Odoley Sowah, Vincent Sowah Odotei said he had formally requested information on the circumstances surrounding the demolition of the La Pleasure Beach Resort.

According to the letter, the request follows growing concerns from members of the community, the La Youth Association and other stakeholders over the demolition and its potential effect on livelihoods.

Questions Raised Over La Pleasure Beach Demolition

Vincent Sowah Odotei said he was particularly concerned about what he described as public dissatisfaction surrounding the demolition, as well as claims that relevant authorities had not been adequately engaged before the exercise.

He also questioned assertions that the MP had no prior knowledge of the matter, arguing that the situation requires greater transparency and accountability from the relevant authorities.

The former MP has therefore requested clarification on several key issues surrounding the La Pleasure Beach demolition, including:

  1. What legal and administrative basis was used to authorise the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach?
  2. Which government institution or institutions authorised and carried out the demolition exercise?
  3. When were the MP’s office and other relevant constituency stakeholders formally informed about the planned demolition?
  4. What engagements took place with the Labadi Beach Hotel, SSNIT, National Security, the relevant Ministry and other government authorities before the demolition?
  5. What representations did the MP’s office make on behalf of individuals and businesses expected to be affected by the demolition?
  6. What is the current position of the MP’s office regarding people whose businesses, property or livelihoods have been affected?
  7. What measures are being taken to provide relief, compensation, relocation or other assistance to genuinely affected constituents, where applicable?

Calls for Transparency and Accountability

The development has renewed public interest in the La Pleasure Beach demolition, particularly regarding the legal authority behind the exercise, stakeholder consultations and the welfare of affected businesses and individuals.

Sowah Odotei said elected representatives have a responsibility to provide constituents with clear information about major developments that affect their livelihoods and property.

He expressed hope that the MP would provide a timely response to the questions raised and address concerns surrounding the demolition.

The controversy is expected to keep attention focused on La Pleasure Beach, La Dadekotopon, beach redevelopment, demolition of structures, compensation for affected businesses and government accountability in Ghana.
