The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DMT Collateral Management Limited for the construction of a major 21,000-tonne grain storage facility in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, forms part of the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to strengthen agricultural production, improve food storage infrastructure and enhance Ghana’s food security.

The proposed grain storage facility is expected to significantly increase the country’s capacity to store essential food commodities while reducing post-harvest losses experienced by farmers and agricultural businesses.

Wa Grain Storage Facility to Strengthen Ghana’s Food Security

Upon completion, the 21,000-tonne storage facility will operate as a strategic Food Security Hub, providing essential grain reserves to support Ghana during periods of food shortages, supply disruptions and other national emergencies.

The facility is also expected to improve the management of grain reserves and contribute to a more reliable food distribution system across the country.

Feed Ghana Programme Targets Improved Agricultural Infrastructure

The partnership between MoFA and DMT Collateral Management Limited represents part of broader government efforts to modernise Ghana’s agricultural sector through improved storage facilities and stronger food supply systems.

Expanding grain storage capacity is considered important in addressing post-harvest losses, protecting farmers’ produce, stabilising food supplies and improving the availability of essential food commodities.

The Wa project is expected to contribute to Ghana’s long-term agricultural development agenda while strengthening national preparedness against food shortages and other emergencies.

The initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to improving food security, supporting farmers and building a more resilient agricultural economy under the Feed Ghana Programme.
