The Nogokpo Traditional Council’s spokesperson, Nufialaga Mawufemor Kobla Nornyigbey, has received a challenge from the National Peace Council (NPC).
This is in response to his allegations that the Council used bribery to sway some of the chiefs who were mediating the conflict between Nogokpo and Bishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel.
On October 26, 2023, Nornyigbey made statements that were made public by a number of news sites. In them, he claimed that Torgbiga Adamah III, the President of the Some Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of Some Traditional Area, had been compromised when the NPC paid him a visit.
In addition, Nornyigbey demanded the dissolution of the NPC, arguing that the Council’s activities were inconsistent with the goal of achieving peace.
Nornyigbey’s charges have been emphatically denied by the NPC, which has called them “false, unsubstantiated, and utterly unethical.”
In response, the Council made it clear that it had worked with all relevant parties to help find a peaceful way to end the dispute that started when Agyinasare declared in May 2023 that Nogokpo was the “demonic headquarters of the Volta Region.”
The Council reported that on June 5, 2023, it had a meeting with Torgbi Saba V, the Chief of Nogokpo, and that it had given him a “conflicts complaint form,” which he filled out and returned on June 9 of the same year. In addition, the NPC stated that on June 29, 2023, a delegation of eight members of the Council met with the Some Traditional Council.
Torgbiga Adamah III commanded the group, which also comprised the 13 members of his Traditional Council, which included Torgbi Atsu-Gledza of Nogokpo-Agbakofe and Torgbi Saba V of Nogokpo.
The NPC made it clear that Nufialaga Mawufemor Nornyigbey was not present at the meeting, which included over twenty people in a public venue.
Apart from the main assembly, the Council categorically denied having a private or separate meeting with Torgbiga Adamah III. As a result, the NPC demanded that Nufialaga Mawufemor Nornyigbey apologize and withdraw his injurious and inaccurate words.
