The Domestic Violence Secretariat under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), organized a High-Level Dialogue to discuss the gaps and find effective ways of Combating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Practices that affect women and girls in the country.

The activity forms part of the16 Days of Activism Campaign against Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

The purpose of the dialogue was to engage all stakeholders to invest in issues related to Domestic Violence.

In her opening remarks, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu stated that violence against women and girls is a deliberate violation of their rights and impedes their progress, hence should be reported to the appropriate quarters.

She charged the Regional Coordinating Councils to designate a Bungalow in each region to serve as Shelter as a medium-term strategy whilst they seek funds to construct receptive Shelters.

Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu called on all to help address existing gaps and invest in women and girls in order for them to contribute to the national development.

The Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi on behalf of the Chief Director, of the Ministry, Dr Afisah Zakariah urged all and sundry to collaborate to ensure the elimination of Domestic Violence and its related issues.

The development partners in a solidarity message thanked the Government of Ghana through the Ministry, for ensuring that no one is left behind in the development agenda.

They pledged their continuous support to invest and allocate resources to programmes that address the root causes of Gender- based violence to generate an environment that views violence as an intolerable breach of human rights.

The programme was organized with support from the United Nations in Ghana, OXFAM in Ghana, GIZ Ghana, and AECID.
