The district-level elections that are set for tomorrow, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, have all the essential preparations completed, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).
There are more than 66,000 candidates running in this important municipal election for assembly and unit committee seats.
Statistics from the Electoral Commission show that a total of 18,755 candidates are running for seats as assembly members and 47,502 candidates are running as unit committee members. 66,257 candidates total when these figures are added together.
6,215 electoral areas throughout 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies will be used for this election battle.
The EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Sereboe Quaicoe, expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to plan the elections efficiently.
He gave the populace the assurance that every arrangement needed to guarantee a smooth election procedure had been made.
Dr. Quaicoe stressed that all other electoral materials had been provided to the polling places in a sufficient manner, with the exception of ballot sheets.
He went on to say that in order to prevent shortages, the EC guarantees complete supply of materials rather than depending on partial deliveries. Nonetheless, the district offices are prepared to act quickly to resolve any unanticipated shortages.
“All the materials are there, with the exception of ballot papers, and we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages,” Dr. Quaicoe stated. Should shortages arise, the district office will address them, barring any other circumstances.
As an essential part of local government, the District Assembly Elections have drawn a lot of interest from both candidates and voters. In order to ensure effective representation and community development, the elections give individuals the chance to choose their local representatives.
Tuesday’s elections will be free, fair, and transparent thanks to the Electoral Commission’s assurance of preparedness, which inspires hope and faith in the democratic process.
