The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) revealed that 3,647 applicants’ subject scores were canceled for bringing foreign materials into the examination room.
Textbooks, printed materials, and prepared notes were among the foreign items.
In addition, 839 candidates’ full scores for using cell phones in exam rooms have been canceled by the testing board.
While 1,005 candidates’ complete results and 4,280 candidates’ subject results have been withheld due to a variety of potential offenses.
Candidates from 235 schools had some of their subject results further delayed due to collaboration and the usage of artificial intelligence-generated responses.
According to WAEC, there is still an inquiry ongoing into these cases.
Depending on the conclusion of the investigations, the results that were withheld for these candidates may be made public or annulled.
On Monday, December 18, 2023, WAEC announced the results of the WASSCE for 2023.
448,674 candidates in all, comprising 212,453 men and 236,221 women from 975 schools, registered for the test.
