The current member of parliament for Akuapim South, Osei Bonsu Amoah, has decided not to run for reelection.
Amoah has pulled out of the contest with just a few days till the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries on January 27.
Amoah, who was running for a fourth term in the legislature, gave no explanation for his choice.
“I write to inform you that I have withdrawn as a candidate for the election of a parliamentary candidate for the general elections in 2024 in the Akuapim South constituency,” he wrote in a letter to the NPP national secretary.
“I respectively request that in accordance with the Public Elections, 2016 C.I 94, my name should be deleted on the ballot paper for the election,” he said.
O B Amoah’s retirement has left Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, and Frank Aidoo—the Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem South—in the running.
