Dr. Maryam Issaka Kriese has been revealed as the independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, and Leader of the New Force. The election is scheduled for December 7.
At a news conference in Kumasi, Cheddar made the announcement and highlighted Dr. Kriese’s outstanding credentials and her ability to work with him to bring Ghana toward prosperity.
Respected Ghanaian scholar Dr. Maryam Esaka Kriese is well known for her contributions to higher education and her knowledge of gender issues, African studies, and development studies.
She studied sociology and political science for her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Ghana. She has also studied gender and development for her further degrees overseas.
Dr. Kriese is currently a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), where she is actively involved in curriculum development, research, and teaching.
Throughout her scholarly career, she has advocated for advancements in gender and development and made significant contributions to important national economic challenges.
Dr. Kriese specializes in economics and has authored more than ten scholarly research papers. Her in-depth knowledge of financial economics is demonstrated by one of her noteworthy works from 2016, “Exchange Rate Forecasting in the West African Monetary Zone: A Comparison of Forecast Performance of Time Series Models.”
Cheddar emphasized Dr. Kriese’s significant contribution as Senior Manager of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Ghana, where she oversaw investments, issued capital market operator licenses, and drafted important legislation, all of which shaped the country’s financial environment.

Dr. Kriese has experience in the field outside of UPSA and has a strong academic background. She formerly worked in the finance department at the University of Ghana, where her expertise in business administration and financial economics was very useful.
Her varied experience, which includes positions in administration, finance, auditing, and education, gives her a broad variety of talents that will support Cheddar’s leadership in determining the nation’s future economic policies and plans.
Following her presentation, Dr. Kriese said that she agreed with Cheddar’s vision and that he should be given more credit for his initiatives that will provide chances and jobs to all Ghanaians, not just a chosen few.
She emphasized that guiding the nation out of the problems left by past generations of leaders is the common objective.
