The public has been warned about the cholera outbreak in Ghana, particularly in the Western Region, by Dr. Ofori Boadu, Head of the Ghana Health Service’s Institutional Care Division.

When he visited the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, where cholera is on the rise, he gave this warning.

He spoke with a few hospital employees on how they are managing the cholera outbreak in the community.

In an interview, Dr. Ofori Boadu, the head of the Ghana Health Service’s institutional care division, said that the outbreak has affected four regions: Greater Accra, Central, Eastern, and Western. Of these four, the Western Region has the most cases reported.

He added that, in comparison to the Western Region, the cases in the other regions are quiet and very few.

He praised the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital staff for their efforts in saving lives since the outbreak in the municipality.

As a result, he advised everyone to be aware of their surroundings and practice better hygiene wherever they go.

Therefore, he appealed to the public to support them and give them some supplies that would aid in the fight against cholera.

Speaking to Dr. Simon Osei Frimpong, the Medical Superintendent of Kwesimintsim Government Hospital, he said that although their first case was reported very late and the patient died, they have since been able to provide their medical staff with a number of trainings to help treat the reported cases.

The hospital’s lack of facilities is their largest problem, he said, adding that the majority of the buildings they had reserved had been altered to assist keep their patients there.

He called on the public to assist them because there aren’t enough resources to care for the hospital’s patients.
