In the Agona West District of the Central Region, the Ghana Health Service is presently treating 214 suspected cases of cholera in the Municipality.
Since health experts have confirmed 11 cases thus far, local authorities have increased their surveillance.
The 214 suspected cases are part of the suspected outbreak, and the Directorate has taken a number of actions in response.
Agona West’s Municipal Health Director, Bertha Arthur, has asked locals to exercise caution while attempts to contain the problem continue.
The public has also been urged by the Directorate to maintain good cleanliness and to get medical help right away if they experience any cholera symptoms.
In an interview with Citi News, Bertha Arthur stated, “As of now, we suspect 214 cases. ‘Suspected’ means these individuals presented with dehydration, diarrhoea, and vomiting. We have confirmed 11 cases, as laboratory tests have verified that these individuals have cholera.”
“Once a district confirms or suspects an outbreak exceeding a certain threshold, it escalates to an emergency situation,” she continued.
“We need everyone to join forces to tackle this crisis. We’ve ramped up awareness campaigns to inform the public about the outbreak. We are collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to manage the situation. We also urge people to report to the hospital as soon as they notice cholera symptoms,” Arthur utterated.
