The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Births and Deaths Registry had its first staff meeting in 2025 and presented awards to its top-performing registries for 2024.
Staff members from the Accra Central Registry, Ussher Town, Bubuashie, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi, Kaneshie, Adjabeng, Chorkor, and Korle Bu attended the meeting in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ludwig Mawuli Agbezuhlor, Head of the Accra Metropolitan Births and Deaths Registry, highlighted the city’s 8,080 new births in 2024, including 4,080 males and 4,000 females, and thanked the staff for their hard work the year before.
There were 2,318 females and 2,290 men among the 4,608 deaths that were reported during that time, he said.
With 2,312 births registered, the Korle Gonno Registry was declared the top-performing unit by Mr. Agbezuhlor.
For their exceptional accomplishment, the team—led by Sandra Lamptey and Edmund Arde-Acquah—was awarded a prize. Meanwhile, the Kaneshie Registry secured third place with 1,198 registrations, while the Mamprobi Registry, run by Priscilla Dela Baffour and Yvonne Kraku, came in second with 1,560 births.
He said that the Korle Bu Registry won the highest prize in the death registration category, having registered 4,493 deaths in 2024.
Mr. Douglas N.K. Annoful, the AMA’s Coordinating Director, praised the top-performing registries and Births and Deaths Registry employees for their perseverance, hard work, and dedication to providing the public with outstanding service.
“Your tireless efforts in ensuring timely and accurate vital statistics registration have not gone unnoticed. Your commitment has strengthened the operations of the Registry and supported the Assembly’s mandate of ensuring efficient service delivery,” he stated.
Mrs. Evelyn Owusu, the AMA’s human resource manager, congratulated the recipients and challenged all employees to strive for greater success in 2025, highlighting the significance of their job and urging them to maintain the momentum for better service delivery in the coming year.
