A police operations team shot and killed two armed robbery suspects on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, after they attacked a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor in Tema Community 5.

A female vendor was wounded in the leg during an attempted robbery at Aba Fosuah Plaza at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The suspects arrived on a motorbike, according to a statement released by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command.

Pretending to conduct a cash-out transaction, one of them went up to the vendor.

The suspect pulled out a revolver and demanded the vendor’s bag of cash as she went for her phone. The second suspect participated in the conflict that resulted from her resistance.

One of the assailants shot the victim in the leg during the altercation, enabling them to take the money and go away.

The accused were apprehended close to the Tema General Hospital by a neighbouring police patrol squad that had already been stationed there.

Officers pursued the suspects toward the Smart Hotel area after they disregarded instructions to stop and drove off.

The cops reportedly retaliated after the suspects opened fire on them during the chase. After being shot, both suspects fell from their motorcycles.

They were taken by police to the Police Hospital for medical attention, but upon arrival, they were declared dead.

For identification and autopsy, their bodies have been placed at the mortuary.

A 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammo, three Android phones, numerous SIM cards, a talisman, the victim’s Ghana card, and GH¢11,390 that was allegedly stolen from the victim were among the things found during a search of the suspects.

Currently, the injured vendor is receiving medical attention and is in stable condition.

An empty shell casing that was thought to have been discharged from the suspects’ weapon was also recovered by the police at the crime scene.

In addition to urging locals to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, the Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding local security.
