A British national named Naomi Mbelu was arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for trying to smuggle cannabis via Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
When Mbelu disembarked from Ethiopian Airlines Flight 921 on March 22, 2025, at around 12:20 p.m., he was intercepted. Her journey began in Bangkok, Thailand, and included a stopover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
NACOC officers screened her luggage and found 41 black polythene-sealed parcels that tested positive for cannabis.
The substances that were seized weighed a total of 21.38 kg.
Two accomplices were arrested as a result of additional investigations: Isaac Anum Sowah, the driver who came to pick Mbelu up, and Joseph Asoa, who had helped her at the airport and had arranged for a visa upon arrival.
The seized substances are still being investigated, and all three suspects are presently in NACOC custody.
The public has been reassured by authorities that they are dedicated to fighting drug trafficking across Ghana’s ports of entry.
