In a ceremony held at the fund’s headquarters in East Legon on Friday, April 11, 2025, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, officially established a 17-member Board of Trustees for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
Representatives from the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Ghana Education Service, and Ghana Ministry of Education and Finance make up the board.

Members of the Christian Council, Ghana Bankers Association, Ghana Insurers Association, NPRA, Association of Ghana Industries, and Ghana Employers Association are also on the board.
In his speech, the Minister underlined the vital role that GETFund plays in Ghana’s educational system, specifically in the areas of infrastructural development, scholarship distribution, and the supply of instructional materials.
He emphasized the Board’s legislative importance, pointing out that no spending from the Fund can be made without its consent.
In order to ensure the sustainability and efficient operation of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program, Hon. Iddrisu pointed out that GETFund will be one of the financing sources under the current administration.

In order to improve resource mobilization, he also urged the Board to strategically interact with important partners, such as the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), private businesses, and development organizations.
The Minister urged the members to lead with integrity, service, and patriotism and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to giving the Board the institutional support and policy guidance it needs.
Addressing infrastructure deficiencies, advancing fair access to postsecondary education, and fostering research and innovation via consistent and open funding are all anticipated to be major responsibilities of the new board.
