The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that it will temporarily halt its nationwide Thank You Tour.
By doing this, the party will be able to take part fully in the May 5, 2025, “Save the Judiciary” demonstration.
Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo was recently suspended by President John Mahama, and a coalition of five political parties is spearheading the protest in response.
The demonstration is being held in response to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s suspension by President John Mahama, which the participating parties have denounced as a grave danger to the judiciary’s independence.
“The party intends to suspend the tour so that all of us can be part of this important national exercise. This is bigger than party lines. We are fighting for Ghanaians and the future of our democratic institutions,” Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the NPP, said.
He claims that the protest symbolizes a unified front for justice and constitutional order.
The leadership of the Minority in Parliament has promised to support the coalition on this subject, and the NPP welcomes their assistance, he added.
Across the regions, party members and supporters are being encouraged to participate in the event.
The attendance, according to organizers, will strongly convey to the government the importance of maintaining the rule of law and the judiciary’s independence.
