Fake doctor arrested for impersonation and fraud

Through an intelligence-led operation, the Ghana Police Service has detained a guy who posed as a doctor and conned unwary victims into accepting offers for overseas travel.

Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters staff detained the suspect, Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, in Kasoa Crispo City, Central Region, on Thursday, June 6, 2025.

Frederick Papa Kow-Assifuah, the suspect, had set up a meeting with another potential victim he had enticed online, was wearing a white lab coat, and had a stethoscope around his neck when he was arrested.

Several medical items in his possession were found during a search of the property, including

                •             Two (2) stethoscopes

                •             Three (3) intravenous (IV) drips

                •             Five (5) syringes

                •             Two (2) sample bottles

                •             One (1) roll of plaster

                •             Six (6) bottles of vaccines

                •             One (1) Ghanaian passport

                •             Cash amounting to GH¢8,500.00

The suspect acknowledged during questioning that he had pretended to be a doctor at the United Brain Hospital in Mallam, an Accra suburb.

He also acknowledged that he had used his fictitious identity to approach women online, start romantic connections, and persuade them to give him money for fictitious European holiday plans.

The suspect is being held by the police, aiding in the investigation, and will appear in court.
