The remains of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who died in Ghana in March 2025, has been successfully repatriated, according to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

The body was transported from Kotoka International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria, with a brief stopover in Lomé, Togo.

The Ghanaian public, boxing community, media professionals, and journalists were all deeply appreciated by the GBA for their ongoing support following the tragedy.

Before the body arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the GBA despatched two important delegates to Lagos in advance of the last ceremonies in Nigeria: Fit Square Boxing Gym head coach Lateykwei Lartey and Gideon Hassen Appiah, a member of the GBA board.

A total of $3,000 has been sent to the GBA’s Nigerian delegation to be presented to the late boxer’s family, according to GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye.

Gordon Frimpong, the CEO of Osibor Boxing Management, gave a $1,500 purse, while the GBA also contributed $1,500 to the total.

Ghana will honor the late fighter by presenting the money to the president of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC).

The GBA reiterated its commitment to maintaining cordial ties with its Nigerian colleagues and making sure Olanrewaju’s memory is remembered with dignity and respect.
