The election of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate is set for January 31, 2026, in advance of the general elections in 2028.

The National Council, the party’s second-highest decision-making body, approved a proposal from the constitution revision committee, according to Justin Kodua Frimpong Esq., general secretary of the biggest opposition party.

The National Council has already used its authority to approve the presidential primary schedule, Mr. Justin Frimpong Koduah confirmed; thus, it will not be up for approval at the delegates meeting scheduled for July 19, 2025.

“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he wrote.

As a result, the Bosomtwi lawmaker declared on Facebook that he would seek the NPP’s flagbearership if the party opens nominations.
