The University of Ghana has declared that all social events on campus will be immediately suspended in response to a recent spike of COVID-19 cases.
As part of preventative measures to safeguard the university community’s health, it was issued on Wednesday, June 25 and signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, dean of student affairs.
“Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
All student organizations, including the Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), Student Representative Council (SRC), Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), and all departmental and school associations, are subject to the suspension.
Additionally, planned week festivities and other events have been postponed till further notice.
The university stressed that the measure is meant to prioritize public health and safety and requested all student leaders and stakeholders to fully comply with the mandate.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), the Director of Public Affairs, the Director of Safety and Security Services, the heads of departments, the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s office, senior tutors, the hostel managers, and the patrons of student organizations were also copied on the message.
As the university deals with the resurgence of COVID-19 on campus, the announcement marks a new level of caution.
