The State House in Accra’s forecourt hosted an interdenominational Christian service to commemorate the first National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

President John Dramani Mahama suggested in February 2025 that July 1, Ghana’s Republic Day and Senior Citizens Day, be designated as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

“Transformation of this land depends on us,” Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson said at the prayer service.

“Let us speak words that heal and not words that harm. The peace we enjoy is not simply the product of sound policies or political will. It is the result of prayer. It is the fruit of faithful believers.”

“Religious tolerance is a precious gift we must protect. The virtues of courage, of honesty, of discipline, of sacrifice, and of compassion are what really measure the greatness of any nation.” President John Mahama
