In his speech, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, lamented the extent of gold smuggling in the nation, calling it a crisis that deprives the government of critical development funding and threatens the livelihoods of mining communities.

In addition to being a national economic pillar, the Minister underlined that gold is the lifeline of many Ghanaian homes. As such, combating illegal mining and smuggling is not only a law enforcement issue; it is a fight for Ghana’s prosperity.

Hon. Buah described important reforms being led by the Ministry in response to the gold mining problem, such as the introduction of the Cooperative Mining Scheme in the near future.

Under the guidance of government organizations, major mining companies, and a few independent organizations, this daring project will restructure small-scale miners into registered cooperatives.

Miners will benefit from this initiative by receiving:

– Training in environmentally sound mining practices

-Logistical and financial support and

-Pathways to legally and sustainably participate in Ghana’s gold value chain.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah praised the Gold Board Task Force’s establishment and emphasized its crucial role in this change.

In addition to upholding the law, he urged its members to protect Ghana’s sovereignty and manage its future riches.

In addition to reaffirming the Ministry’s support for the Task Force, he promised that Ghana would regain control of its mineral resources and economic future through this new era of intelligence-driven, coordinated, and sustainable gold governance.

Gold Board CEO Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Finance Minister Hon. Ato Forson, Defense Minister Dr. Omane Boama, and National Security Coordinator DCOP Osman Abdul Razak were also in attendance during the inauguration.
