The Memorial Heritage Chairman, Mr. Alex Segbefia, stated at a news conference in Accra that the festivities are intended to honor the late statesman’s lasting legacy, who is cherished for his integrity, humility, and commitment to public service.

A memorial lecture at the University of Professional Studies, Accra’s (UPSA) Ohene Kofi Konadu Auditorium, will kick off the celebration on July 22, 2025.

Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, will preside over the lecture, which has as its theme “Atta Mills: A Case Study for the Fourth Republic” and will be given by Mrs. Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

The late president’s ultimate resting place, Asomdwee Park in Accra, will host a sad wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service on July 24, 2025.

It is anticipated that family members, friends, dignitaries, and residents from all over the nation will attend the event, which will commemorate precisely 13 years since his death.

The Atta-Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament, held at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on July 26, 2025, will mark the end of the celebration.

In addition to honoring hockey, one of Professor Mills’ longtime hobbies, the event uses athletics to promote discipline, teamwork, and youth development.

Mr. Segbefia urged the public, civil society organizations, and the media to actively engage in the activities, emphasizing that all Ghanaians are entitled to the legacy of President Mills.

“The life of President Mills is a model of leadership rooted in peace, truth, and service. It is our collective duty to honour and preserve that legacy,” Mr. Segbefia stated.
