Public Holidays and Commemorative Days in Ghana

The Ministry of the Interior would like to notify the public about Ghana’s 2025 public holidays and commemorative days in light of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, and the President’s approval.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

  1. New Year’s Day                (1st January)
  2. Constitution Day              (7th January)
  3. Independence Day           (6th March)
  4. Good Friday                       (18th April)
  5. Easter Monday                  (21st April)
  6. Labour Day                        (1st May)
  7. Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan)    (No fixed date)
  8. Shaqq Day                          (No fixed date)

(The day immediately after Eid-ul-Fitr)

  • Eid-ul-Adha (Hajj)             (No fixed date)
  • Republic Day                      (1st July)
  • Founder’s Day                    (21st September)
  • Farmers Day                       (1st Friday in December)
  • Christmas Day                    (25th Day)
  • Boxing Day                         (26th December)

COMMEMORATIVE DAYS

  1. African Union Day (25th May)

SUBSTITUTED HOLIDAYS

Section 3(2) of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1142), amends Section 3 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), which states that the President may designate Monday or Friday as a holiday by executive instrument if a public holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Furthermore, the President may designate Monday as a public holiday by executive instrument if a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Please take note that Eid-ul-Fitr, Shaqq Day, Eid-ul-Adha, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day are not covered by replacement holidays.
