Elikplim Akurugu, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s candidate for parliament in 2020, will once more stand for the party in the Dome Kwabenya constituency in the 2024 elections.
This comes after her victory in the presidential and parliamentary primaries on May 13, 2023. Ms. Akurugu defeated the other two parliamentary candidates with 1,564 votes.
Theophilus Adu Mensah received 8 votes, compared to 1308 for Israel Kwaku Mensah Susuli. John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate, triumphed by a huge margin in the Dome Kwabenya constituency, taking 2853 votes to Kojo Bonsu’s 14 votes. The NDC election for flag bearer has been won by Mr. Mahama.
297,603 votes, or 98.9% of all legitimate ballots cast, went to the former president. Mr. Bonsu, his lone opponent, received 3,181 votes, or 1.1% of the total.
Prior to the official results being revealed by the election commission, he called to concede and congratulate Mr. Mahama. 4,353 votes were disqualified. As a result, Mr. Mahama is chosen to represent the NDC in the general elections in 2024.
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a third candidate, withdrew from the contest at the last minute due to “blatant irregularities.”
