A new poll by Global Info Analytics, published on August 21, 2025, shows that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the overwhelming favorite to lead the opposition NPP into the general elections of 2028.
Dr. Bawumia has a clear advantage over his opponents, according to the survey, with 52% of NPP delegates supporting him ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
With 17%, his nearest rival, Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP for Assin Central, is far behind. Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum received 1%, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each received less than 1%, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong received 3%.
10% of delegates are still unsure, according to the poll, while 9% chose not to declare their preference, allowing for last-minute changes as the primaries draw near.
Global Info Analytics used computer-assisted telephone interviews to survey 2,656 NPP delegates in 263 constituencies between August 12 and August 20, with 2,560 of them completing all questions.
The survey has a 99% confidence level and a ±2.44% margin of error.
Although Dr. Bawumia’s lead is confirmed by the numbers, observers warn that winning the next election will depend on bringing together the delegates who are still uncertain.
