Former super welterweight and middleweight world champion Jermall Charlo plus former super bantamweight and featherweight world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. will be fighting on July 26th as they are part of the undercard for Errol Spence Jr. vs Tim Tsyzu which will be at Afterpay Arena in Sydney Australia.
Charlo will face Koen Mazoudier and Fulton will take on Liam Wilson. These bouts will be shown live on Amazon Prime PPV.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) will be back in the ring for the first time since defeating Thomas LaManna by stoppage in May of last year. He won his first world title at super welterweight back in 2015 with a knockout over Cornelius Bundrage, and became the WBC champion at middleweight in 2019. The Houston native has wins over Julian “J-Rock” Williams, Brandon Adams, Sergey Derevyanchenko, and Jose Benavidez Jr.
“It feels great to be back in the ring and to take my talents Down Under to Australia,” said Charlo. “Koen Mazoudier is going to be looking to make a name off me, but he underestimates how hungry I am. These guys ain’t seen nothing like this. It’s the USA vs. Australia and Jermall Charlo is coming to take over. Lock in with me on July 25 and watch me put on a show.”
Hailing from Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia, Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs) has won three consecutive fights since losing to Nikita Tszyu in 2024. He turned pro in 2018 after a great amateur career, and won eight of his first nine fights. He is aware of the odds not being in his favor but he aims to pull off the upset.
“I know I’m the underdog,” said Mazoudier. “Everyone knows I’m the underdog. I don’t care. I’m coming to spoil the party and dethrone a legend. I’ve never taken a backward step in my life, and I’m sure as hell not starting on 26 July. I’m going to bring everything I’ve got to get the result. I’m the real life Rocky.”
Stephen Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs) looks to bounce back from his loss to WBC super featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster which took place in December. The Philadelphia native was a unified champion at super bantamweight, with title wins over Angelo Leo and Brandon Figueroa. He moved up to featherweight after falling short against Naoya Inoue, and defeated Figueroa a second time to become the the WBC featherweight champion. Now Fulton wishes to get back in the win column and eventually contend in the super featherweight division.
“I expect Liam to be on his A-game and take this fight as an opportunity to get a shot at the title,” said Fulton. “This fight is to show that I am nowhere near finished and to redeem myself after my last performance. I let my fans and peers down in my last fight, as well as myself, so this is me coming back out strong!”
Wilson (18-3, 10 KOs) currently has a five fight winning streak, with his last win happening in January as he knocked out Rodex Piala. In 2023, he challenged Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO super featherweight title but was defeated in six rounds. The 30 year old from Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia also fought former world titlist Oscar Valdez in 2024.
“Fulton has been a champion in two divisions,” said Wilson. “I respect that. But I’m ‘Mr. Damage’ — I don’t do easy nights and I don’t do backward steps. On July 26, he’s going to find that out.”
The pay per view telecast will also feature 2024 Australian Olympian Callum Peters who will look to build on his undefeated record. Peters (7-0, 6 KOs) recently defeated Joeshon James and will get back in the ring after a brief rest. Just a month before defeating James, he stopped Delio Mouzinho which was on the same card as Tim Tszyu’s last fight. He will be in his second bout scheduled for ten rounds as his win over James was also a ten round bout.
