Linda Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, is scheduled to speak to the media today, Thursday, August 28, at 10 a.m., to discuss some of the most important issues facing the capital of the country.
The purpose of the engagement is to outline coordinated efforts to restore order and improve the quality of life in Accra. It will also bring together all of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region.
At the top of the agenda will be the growing infiltration of unapproved colonies, which officials claim compromises urban planning and puts inhabitants at risk of natural disasters like flooding. Additionally, the Minister is anticipated to reveal plans for demolitions in order to clear these settlements while guaranteeing that those impacted are treated in accordance with due process.
Security issues will also take center stage, including the upkeep and repair of streetlights across the area to reduce crime and improve safety.
Long considered one of Accra’s greatest problems, sanitation will also be discussed, with topics expected to include trash management, public health, and the implementation of sanitation bylaws.
In addition to giving the media a forum to inquire about and seek clarification on government initiatives to make Accra a cleaner, safer, and more livable city, the conference is expected to give a plan for coordinated action by the MMDCEs and the Regional Coordinating Council.
