The parents of a 12-year-old girl who was reportedly defiled and impregnated by a 40-year-old man in Jinijini, Berekum District, Bono Region, have asked the Chief Justice to take a personal interest in the case currently before the Berekum Circuit Court to guarantee that justice is served.
They stated that since the accused altered his first guilty plea to not guilty when the matter was originally called in February of this year, the court case had not advanced.
Speaking, the victim’s father, Mr. Abina Christopher, stated that after being called five times in a row, the case had not progressed for no apparent reason, which was straining his modest resources as a retired teacher.
He claims that because the suspect, Yaw Owusu, 40, was a politically exposed member of the Jinijini group, he anticipates a calculated move to obstruct the case’s prompt trial.
He explained that Yaw Owusu, a JHS 1 student at the Pentecost Preparatory School in Jinijini who was discovered to be pregnant, was to blame.
When the case was called on July 13, 2026, the judge of the Berekum Circuit Court, Cynthia Emefa Ohene, voiced concern about the prosecutor’s absence from court.
She also voiced her displeasure with the outcome and threatened to strike out the case if the prosecutor did not show up in court on August 24, 2026, the next sitting day.
Maabia Francisca, 44, the victim’s mother, pleaded to the authorities to make sure her daughter received justice.
