An Ad Hoc Committee has been established by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council of Elders to oversee and protect the campaign process in advance of the party’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026.
The decision comes after a September 11, 2025, meeting with prospective presidential contenders.
The Committee will be in charge of making sure that campaign-related activities are carried out in a dignified and courteous way that aligns with the NPP’s principles.
The statement released on Monday, September 15, 2025, states that the Committee’s duties include:
- Monitor the comments, actions, and conduct of all aspirants and their followers during the campaign period.
- Receive and review petitions from aspirants regarding hate speech, insults, and abusive language.
- Recommend disciplinary measures and other sanctions where necessary to preserve the unity and image of the Party.
Ing. Dr. Kwasi Abeasi (Chairman), Dr. Alex Glover-Quartey, Mr. Ato Hamilton, Mr. Kwadwo Afari, and Mr. Mark Opoku (Secretary) are members of the Committee.
To guarantee a calm and open process, the Council of Elders asked all candidates, campaign teams, and supporters to work together completely.
It also underlined the Party’s resolve to hold a civil and honorable primary that promotes unity and gets the NPP ready for the general elections in 2026.
Abusuapanin, the chairman of the National Council of Elders, and Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang signed the release.
