Former President John Dramani Mahama has come under fire from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his stance on the free senior high school (SHS) program.
He claimed that the NDC flagbearer’s stance on the free SHS was erratic. He was addressing at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) rally held in advance of the May 23 parliamentary by-election in Kumawu.
He claims that the NDC flagbearer has changed his position and is now in favor of expanding the scheme to include private second-cycle institutions.
He claimed that the contradictions render the former president Mahama untrustworthy. In July 2022, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta stated that the Free SHS program is still under to reconsideration.
He clarified that the Education Ministry is still investigating the idea in order to determine how parents can be included without coercion.
“Review is always a possibility on the table,” he remarked. And it’s just to ensure that the proper education is provided, waste is removed, and we get value for our money.
