Arise Ghana, a pressure group, has announced that it will challenge the High Court’s decision preventing it from conducting a protest at Revolution Square, next to the Jubilee House.

In its decision, the Court changed the demonstration’s location from Revolution Square to Independence Square.

From November 15 to 17, 2022, the pressure group was scheduled to picket at Revolution Square in protest of the nation’s present economic woes.

The court’s decision came as a result of a request by the Police, which claimed that the organizers’ initial plan to picket at Revolution Square from 1200 to 1700 hours did not bode well for the safety of the protesters and the general public.

Leading Arise Ghana member Mr. Bernard Monah expressed his disagreement with the court’s decision during a news conference in Accra, adding, “We have directed our attorneys to file a notice of appeal and an application for stay of implementation of the judgment.”

On November 7, 2022, he claimed, representatives of Arise Ghana met with representatives of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and came to an agreement to limit the number of demonstrators from 500,000 to 500 in order to ensure efficient policing.

In order to escape rush hour, Mr. Monah said that the picketing’s six-hour duration had been cut to two hours out of greed.

Because the President and the Government’s office and seat were right across the street, Mr. Monah claimed that the picketing’s dates and location, Revolution Square, were meticulously chosen.

He claimed that the picketing’s essential principles of integrity, accountability, and transparency were symbolized by Revolution Square.
