The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, at the Bank Square in Accra.
The visit, though ceremonial, carries strong national significance at a time when Ghana is recording steady gains in macroeconomic stability.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, one of Ghana’s most influential traditional rulers, has long advocated governance and economic policies that support private sector growth, social cohesion and national development.
His engagement with the central bank leadership indicates the increasing relevance of traditional institutions in shaping conversations around economic management, public trust and financial stability.
During the meeting, the Asantehene emphasised the need to safeguard the independence and integrity of the Bank of Ghana, urging political actors and stakeholders to insulate the central bank from partisan interference.
“This is a unique institution with a mandate that ultimately affects every citizen of the land. Ideally, this citadel should be a fortress insulated from the strings and arrows of the political warfare. Whatever it is, we should think twice before we do anything that has the capacity to cast a snare on the integrity of the bank,” he stated.
He further appealed for restraint and mutual respect in dealings with the central bank, insisting that the Governor and his team must be supported to carry out their mandate professionally.
“I will appeal to the nation and both sides of the political divide to give the Governor, my son, and his team a chance; give them the space and respect to perform their professional duties. Support them along the right path. This is our bank; if they fail, we risk collapse, if they succeed, we walk in wealth and in glory,” the Asantehene added.
He expressed confidence in the Bank of Ghana’s leadership, noting that the institution has the capacity to sustain economic stability and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s long-term growth.
On his part, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, paid glowing tribute to the Asantehene, describing his leadership as a source of stability and wisdom for the nation. He noted that Ghana continues to benefit from Otumfuo’s steady and measured guidance, particularly in moments of national tension.
According to Dr Asiama, the Asantehene’s leadership epitomises calm authority anchored in moral clarity and commitment to national unity.
