The vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and the former trade and industry minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, have been proposed as a possible alliance for the general elections of 2024 by majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

He claimed that the Vice President and the former Trade and Industry Minister are strong contenders in the NPP campaign and that this calls for the formation of some sort of consensus before to the party’s 2023 presidential primary.

He clarified that there must quickly be agreement on whether the Vice President should be the flagbearer and Mr. Kyerematen should be his running companion, or vice versa.

The Ashanti Region’s Suame Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) disclosed that he had taken the notion a step further by consulting the former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2024, the head of parliamentary business discussed the idea in an interview with PM Express on the Accra-based Joy News Channel.

He continued by requesting some research to back up the allegations of a deal between the two at the home of the former chief of staff.

“I also discussed the issue with former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and he said the party should be allowed to continue electing flagbearers.”

The Suame MP stated, “I still think this ought to be taken into account in the party’s interest.

Meanwhile, 11 candidates have chosen their nomination papers for the November 2023 primary.

They are Boakye Agyarko, a former minister of energy; Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an MP for Assin Central; and Kwabena Agyepong, a former presidential spokesperson and party general secretary.

The others are Dr. Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of food and agriculture; Kwadwo Nsafoah Opoku, an energy expert; Joe Ghartey, a former attorney general and minister of justice who is also a member of parliament for Essikado-Ketan; Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong; Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former minister of state;
