The New Patriotic Party’s 2024 flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party unity as he sets out on a statewide “Thank You” trip on Saturday, April 26.
The tour will begin in the Western Region and conclude in the Central Region as a way to express gratitude to the voters for their support in the most recent general elections.
Despite the Party’s loss in the general elections of 2024, he added, it was crucial to give thanks to God because everything that occurred served a beneficial cause for humanity.
In an engagement with party officers and personnel at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Wednesday, April 23, former vice president Bawumia thanked them for efficiently managing the party’s daily operations.
“Unity is key in everything we do. We must build a strong party machinery that can win the next general elections. If you win the party primary and fail the general elections, it is nothing. United we stand, divided we fall, so, let us unite the rank and file of the party to take up the mantle of leadership of the country in 2028,” Dr Bawumia stated.
As an act of solidarity, Dr. Bawumia had invited former NPP presidential candidates to accompany him on the statewide thank-you tour.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia refuted allegations that his loss in the 2024 general elections was due to his Muslim faith, pointing out that every study done to determine his loss excluded religion and tribe as contributing factors.
“No religion or tribe is a factor for my defeat those saying I lost because am a Muslim is just propaganda,” Dr Bawumia emphasised.
He thought that the lack of voting by Party members was the reason the party lost the 2024 polls.
“Statistics showed that 2.1 million of our supporters did not come out to vote for us while John Mahama increased his votes by 150,000,”he explained.
“So, our defeat is internal and re-building the party we need unity to win the next general elections,” he added.
On behalf of the Party executives, NPP General Secretary Mr. Justin Koduah Frimpong expressed regret to the party’s members for the party’s loss in the 2024 elections.
“We’re sorry for disappointing you,” he said, and promised to implement all the recommendations in Professor Mike Oquaye’s Fact-Finding Report to ensure victory in the next general elections.
“Let’s encourage ourselves and behave as if nothing happened and fight hard to take up the mantle of leadership of the country in 2028,” he assured the party supporters.
The National Chairperson of the NPP, Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, advised the party’s members to adopt a “never say die” mentality and stay committed to regaining power in 2028.
