The parents of the driver who is suspected of being engaged in a fatal accident that left two people dead at East Legon, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, have been taken into custody by the police.
The two are in custody helping with the investigation, according to a statement released and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Police Public Affairs Directorate.
According to investigations, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Elrad Salifu Amoako, 16, the suspected driver, and one other person were traveling in a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801 – 20.
The Acura, registered GR 2542 – 23, being driven by Joseph Ackah and carrying four other occupants, crashed with them.
Both cars caught fire and suffered irreversible burns.
Three of the five victims in the Acura were saved, according to the inquiry, while the other two, 12-year-old Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, unfortunately perished in the collision.
According to the statement, the third victim is still hospitalized and undergoing continuous medical care, while the other two victims, who only had minor injuries, were treated and released.
According to the police, the second passenger in the Jaguar and the suspect driver were also saved and are now being treated at the hospital.
A group from the Police Management Board, under the direction of Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, paid the grieving family a visit as a show of support. They also inquired about the condition of the injured at the hospital.
To give the impacted families closure, the police reassured the public that a comprehensive investigation into the accident was in progress.
