During a decisive operation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the Blue Water Guards dismantled dozens of machines and made arrests, dealing a serious blow to illegal mining in Wassa Amenfi East.
The swoop targeted miners who had been damaging roads and waterways with their operations, and it happened between Asikuma and Mensahkrom as well as on the Eshire River near Wassa Akropong.
When the task force got to Mensahkrom, they discovered that miners were digging right on the road, making its already poor condition worse.
A total of thirty Changfa engines, eighteen pumping machines, nineteen shovels, five hammers, two diggers, a pipeline, fifty washing boards, fifty washing blankets, and more than 100 “outers” were destroyed.

A tricycle known locally as “aboboyaa” was also taken by the team, along with five temporary shelters that were set on fire and one gallon of diesel.
After being taken into custody, three suspects were sent over to the Wassa Akropong Police Command for additional examination.
Following the raid, the local committee chairman and the chief met with the Guards and gave them four culverts and two excavators.
These were utilised to reshape sections of the damaged road under the taskforce’s supervision.
In addition, the chief promised to provide two truckloads of gravel to aid in the restoration process, and Wednesday is set aside for further monitoring.
This most recent operation demonstrates the Blue Water Guards’ commitment to defending the Wassa Amenfi enclave’s roads, rivers, and residents against the destructive impacts of illegal mining.
