Cabinet has asked the Transport Minister to immediately deploy 100 freshly arriving Metro Mass buses on the country’s busiest corridors as part of a package of measures to help Ghanaians cope with rising fuel prices.
Days after President Mahama announced that the first group of buses had arrived over the weekend, the instruction was made public on Thursday following an urgent cabinet meeting.
A total of 300 buses will be added to the fleet when two more batches of 100 buses each are anticipated in August and November.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State responsible for Government Communications, clarified that the instruction required and expedited deployment

“The transport minister has been instructed by cabinet to ensure expedited deployment of these buses in high traffic corridors to ensure that it alleviates any difficulties that may have arisen out of the recent price increases,” he stated.
In addition to deployment, the Transport Minister is tasked with making sure that all Metro Mass buses, new and old, maintain fares that are less expensive than those set by private sector companies.
The minister stated that the goal is to make sure Ghanaians have a reasonably priced option on the roads, particularly during peak travel times like rush hour.
