Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s minister of foreign affairs, claims that the country’s stepped-up economic diplomacy efforts are starting to pay off, especially in the form of industrial alliances.
Mr. Ablakwa declared during a high-level visit to China that the GAC Group, a major Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, had shown a great interest in setting up an EV manufacturing facility in Ghana.
“GAC a leading electric vehicle manufacturer has agreed to give favorable consideration to Ghana for the establishment of an EV manufacturing plant,” Ablakwa revealed.
“Ghana is poised to forge strategic partnerships that leverage our lithium discovery and economic recovery efforts for transformation and massive job creation,” the minister added.

China is widely recognized to be at least ten years ahead of its global competitors in EV technology, according to the Foreign Affairs Minister, and is home to seven of the top ten EV brands worldwide.
During a visit to the company’s Panyu headquarters, he thanked the board and management of GAC for their kind hospitality and called the interaction a significant advancement in Ghana’s industrialization efforts.
In order to guarantee that the nation’s international interactions directly benefit its citizens through investment, innovation, and job opportunities, Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed Ghana’s increased emphasis on economic diplomacy.
