The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted allegations that it donated GH¢12 million to support the Ghana national football team.
COCOBOD characterised claims that it misappropriated funds intended for cocoa farmers to sponsor the national team as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis” in a public notice.
The Board made it clear that it has neither misdirected funds meant for cocoa producers nor funded the Ghanaian national football team.
The notification highlighted that COCOBOD has never used money intended for farmer payments to support the Black Stars.
COCOBOD reiterated its dedication to its primary duty, which is to prioritise the welfare of cocoa farmers. This includes timely payment for cocoa purchases, the supply of inputs and extension services, and ongoing investment in the cocoa industry.
In order to obtain accurate and verified information, the Board advised the public to ignore the circulating allegations and to only use official COCOBOD communication channels.
In an effort to reassure stakeholders—especially cocoa farmers—that their interests remain important, COCOBOD released the statement amid increased public scrutiny over financial allocations and support for national initiatives.
