Two people who unlawfully dumped trash near the Accra Post Office were given three months in prison with hard work.
Albert Okai and Amoako Darko, the convicted individuals, entered a guilty plea to the crime.
They were each penalised 50 penalty units (GH¢600), and when they didn’t pay, they were transported to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to fulfil their jail sentences.
According to reports, Michael Osei, the third accused, entered a not guilty plea and was placed under detention in custody for a week until his next court appearance.
Speaking following the ruling, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, stated that the convictions were a component of continuous enforcement actions to curb careless trash disposal in the city.
He said the case emphasises the penalties for violators of the Assembly’s sanitation bylaws, emphasising that rigorous enforcement is meant to protect public health and preserve a clean environment.
