Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare has conveyed the hurt and grief the accusations in the leaked audio saga and the subsequent developments have caused to his family and loved ones.

Former Director-General (Technical) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Mensah, had previously claimed that the IGP was the worst IGP in the history of Ghana and that there was a low morale within the Ghana Police Service as a result of employee dissatisfaction with his management style. COP Mensah, however, denied having any plans to have the IGP removed from his position.

IGP Dampare spoke about the accusations and their effects on him and his family on Tuesday, September 12, when he appeared before a parliamentary committee of inquiry.

He claimed that these “wild allegations without a shred of evidence” had caused him, his family, including his wife and children, as well as his command, leadership team, and the thousands of police officers who had supported the organization’s efforts to become the best institution in the nation, great suffering.

A leaked audio recording showing three police officers and Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), discussing the potential removal of the IGP is being looked into by a parliamentary committee.
