Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Director of Elections and Information Technology, has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to examine the difficulties encountered during the District Level Elections (DLE).
Dr. Omane Boamah asserts that since the EC had more than two years to get ready for the DLE, the difficulties were preventable and inexcusable.
Dr. Omane Boamah urged to the EC to clean house before the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, expressing his sorrow that elections in certain regions of the country could not be held owing to what the EC described technical issues.
The IT director for the NDC emphasized that the elections in 2024 “cannot be business as usual,” and that the Commission needs to be made aware of this before the general elections.
The District Level Elections this year were just like the last DLE in that there was not nearly as much passion and enthusiasm among voters to cast ballots.
Numerous associations and groups have attributed the low turnout to the EC’s failure to provide sufficient education to guarantee that voters cast ballots in large numbers.
Technical difficulties caused the EC to reschedule the elections in certain Ashanti and Eastern regions, notwithstanding the low voter turnout observed in other parts of the nation.
In addition, the commission expressed regret for any hardships that the people in these electoral zones had to endure and gave them the assurance that the polls will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
